GOODSTART EARLY LEARNING
Goodstart Early Learning is Australia’s largest early learning provider. Formed in 2010 by a syndicate of charities, Goodstart is a not-for-profit organisation that currently has 649 child care centres around Australia.
We’ll take you to Goodstart’s head office located in Brisbane, Australia, in the suburb of Murarrie where Gray Puksand & Greenedge Design collaborated to complete Goodstart’s headquarters in a unique CBD location with an area of 36,597 sqft.
The space is a former city mall where an entire floor of the old Broadway on the Mall building will be occupied and is directly above H&M. A few of the challenges that the design team faced was dealing with a heritage-listed facade, existing ground-floor tenancy and the lack of outdoor spaces since the school will cater to Early Childhood Education and Preschool nature and outdoor activities would be needed for exploration and learning.
The designers worked closely with the Goodstart’s team to provide the right equipment, support facilities and environments for each of the age groups, from babies to kindergarten. The team created nature areas and playground spaces that met strict safety guidelines and requirements.
The area for play looked like a park of which one wouldn’t think that it’s actually inside a building. Outdoor play keeps kids active and provides a means to increase their physical stamina and fitness among many other advantages. Trees, outdoor equipment used for exploration and development, a huge sandbox is also installed for the little ones.
The landscape architect, Greenedge, used the old building’s central atrium skylight area used to bring light into the old shopping precinct as an innovative rooftop and indoor gardens. The resulting rooftop space includes mechanically-controlled skylights, allowing light, air and rain to support the vegetable gardens. Together the team created outstanding results within difficult parameters.
